Intraoperative transcranial facial motor evoked potential monitoring in surgery of cerebellopontine angle tumors predicts early and late postoperative facial nerve function

چکیده
We propose a novel method that predicts facial nerve function (FNF) calculated from the drop and recovery of motor evoked potential (FMEP) amplitude ratio during surgery cerebellopontine angle tumors. enrolled 73 patients with tumor, used biphasic, constant current, suprathreshold stimulation (BCS) protocol to record FMEP orbicularis oris. measured intraoperative minimum-to-baseline (MBR), final-to-baseline (FBR), value (RV). RV was by subtracting MBR FBR. Using those values, we evaluated FNF both at early postoperative (EP) late (LP) periods. successfully obtained 62 readings. Facial palsies occurred in 22 EP period, 14 recovered LP period. Both FBR showed significant correlation good predictive power period for first time. is new useful predictor recovery. can be an outcome periods predicted FMEP.

OBJECTIVE This study was conducted to investigate the success rate of using the facial motor evoked potential (FMEP) of orbicularis oculi and oris muscles for facial nerve function monitoring with use of a stepwise protocol, and its usefulness in predicting facial nerve outcome during cerebellopontine angle (CPA) surgeries. METHODS FMEPs were recorded intraoperatively from 60 patients undergo...

متن کاملIntraoperative Facial Nerve Monitoring During Cochlear Implant Surgery
Iatrogenic facial nerve injury is one of the most severe complications of cochlear implantation (CI) surgery. Intraoperative facial nerve monitoring (IFNM) is used as an adjunctive modality in a variety of neurotologic surgeries. The purpose of this retrospective study was to assess whether the use of IFNM is associated with postoperative facial nerve injury during CI surgery. The medical chart...
متن کاملIntraoperative monitoring of the facial nerve.
Anatomic preservation of the facial nerve, with maximal facial function, is one of the goals of acoustic neuroma surgery. Application of electrophysiologic monitoring techniques is useful in achieving this goal. Preoperative electromyography and nerve conduction studies provide important prognostic information for preservation of the nerve and postoperative function. Intraoperative electromyogr...
